A website built with AI and never published: live in one day

An in-house employee had built the new website with artificial intelligence, pages and all. It was finished and working, but nobody knew where to buy server space, how to move the domain or how to publish it. From the go-ahead to the website being reachable took one day.

The starting point

The situation

A financial company with its new website already finished. One of their own employees had built it with artificial intelligence: design, structure, pages and content management, all done in-house and good enough to go live.

But the website only existed as files on a computer, and between that computer and an address that opens in a browser there's a series of steps that AI doesn't do, and whose order, if it isn't your job, you don't even know: where to buy space on a server, which one to choose, how to move the domain you already use, what to touch first so you don't end up offline.

Today many people get stuck here. Building a website is within reach of anyone willing to try, while publishing it has remained technical work, with a domain already in use and no room for mistakes.

What we did

The work

Four steps that have to be done in this order, and it's precisely the order that stops people trying it on their own.

  1. First the analysis, and a quote that makes sense

We started from what was there: how the website was built, what it needed to run, and what should happen to the domain already in use. That led to the quote, with the work and the cost agreed before we started.

    • check of how the website was built and what it needed to be published
    • status of the existing domain established before touching anything
    • quote with tasks and cost defined in advance
  2. Server space, chosen and bought

Where to put a website depends on how it's built, and the cheapest plan often isn't the answer. We chose the right solution for this one, bought it and set it up: a single item, without anyone in the company having to learn a control panel.

    • hosting chosen based on how the website is built
    • purchase and setup done by us
    • no technical panel to learn in-house
  3. The domain moved without breaking anything

This is the delicate step, because email also runs on a domain that's already in use. A mistake here shows up when emails stop arriving. The transfer was prepared and carried out taking into account everything that was already attached to that name.

    • transfer prepared in advance
    • care taken over everything already running on the domain, email included
    • no interruption during the switch
  4. Live, on the same day

Going live, certificate, checks that the website responded from every side. From the moment they said go ahead to the moment the address opened took one day: they'd already done the work themselves, only the last stretch was missing.

    • publishing and secure connection active
    • repeated checks with the website already live
    • one day from the go-ahead to a reachable page
The outcome

What's left

Artificial intelligence has made it easy to build the website, but publishing it is still hard, and hardly anyone expects that. Servers, domains, certificates and keeping email running are still technical work, and that's where a home-made project gets stuck halfway.

We didn't rebuild anything: their employee's work went live as it was, and in one day the company stopped having a new website nobody could see.
